Sept. 17, 2:06 p.m.A 25-foot fishing boat slammed into rocks beneath the Golden Gate Bridge early Thursday, leaving one passenger dead and two others with life-threatening injuries, authorities said.
The vessel, carrying three people, struck rocks on the north side of the bridge around 6:10 a.m. and began to capsize, San Francisco police spokesperson Paulina Henderson told SFGATE.
Marine crews from San Francisco and Marin County responded alongside the U.S. Coast Guard and quickly located all three people aboard. The San Francisco Police Department’s marine unit transported them to the Marin County shoreline, where paramedics continued treating them before they were taken to a hospital.
All three initially suffered life-threatening injuries, Henderson said. One passenger later died at the hospital despite emergency medical efforts. Authorities did not immediately release the person’s identity.

The crash occurred in Marin County waters, according to the San Francisco Fire Department. The agency said the response included its marine unit, SFPD, the Coast Guard, Southern Marin Fire Protection District and Sausalito’s Fire Boat Liberty.
SFFD said crews regularly train together for water rescues and emergencies around the Golden Gate Bridge, where jurisdiction is divided between San Francisco and Marin counties.
SFPD’s major accident investigation team responded to investigate the crash. The fatal accident comes weeks after a boat capsized near Alcatraz in July, which resulted in the deaths of four people.
