Foul play suspected in disappearance of Fairfield woman last seen at CVS

Fairfield police said they suspect foul play in the weekslong disappearance of a 36-year-old woman last seen outside a Bay Area drugstore.

Chantel Brooks, a Fairfield resident, has been missing since July 17 after she left work around 12:20 a.m. on the 700 block of Eddy Street in San Francisco. She was later captured on camera leaving a CVS in Fairfield on the 300 block of East Travis Boulevard just after 1:45 a.m. and heading toward her vehicle, according to the Fairfield Police Department. That CVS location is open 24 hours a day.

Brooks was last seen wearing a brown, multicolored brimmed hat, a red zip-up sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and brown furry boots. She was driving a black 2021 Infiniti QX50 SUV with California license plate No. 9SBB134.

In an update issued on Tuesday, the police department said it has deployed search and rescue teams to conduct ground searches, along with “extensive” aerial searches with drones, to find Brooks. It is also working with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office on the case and has issued dozens of search warrants in the investigation. 

“Our investigation will remain active as we continue working to find Chantel and determine what happened to her,” Fairfield police said in the Tuesday update. “We remain committed to providing answers to her family and our community.”

KGO-TV reported on Tuesday that Brooks’ brothers learned of the new information regarding her disappearance as it was released to the public.

“I’m mad, I’m frustrated, I want to hurt somebody. I don’t know who to hurt, right? You know what I mean? Because it’s like, I want my sister back, that’s all I want is my sister back safe,” Calvin Robinson, Brooks’ brother, told the outlet.

Fairfield police have not released more information on why foul play is suspected now and did not immediately respond to an information request from SFGATE. 

It’s also unclear why the Fairfield police didn’t issue an alert regarding Brooks’ disappearance until Aug. 5, about two weeks after she was last seen.
