Search and rescue personnel find missing kayaker dead at Clear Lake

A kayaker who went missing in Lake County has since been found deceased.

Karmagit Singh, 37, from Sutter County left his home on Sept. 17 to take his kayak to Clear Lake, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office told the Lake County News. Later that morning, his was found parked at an East State Highway 20 turnout in Lucerne, the outlet reported.

On Sept. 18, when he was reported missing, the Lake County Search and Rescue Team, the Lake County Boat Patrol and the North Shore Fire Dive Team began looking for Singh, the Lake County Sheriff Search and Rescue said in a Facebook post on Thursday. Rescue crews focused mainly on the Clear Lake shoreline and bodies of water beside Highway 20 and Bruner Drive in Lucerne.

The search continued until Sept. 21, when a fisherman called 911 to report a floating body, the Lake County News reported. Sheriff’s deputies and fire department crews removed Singh’s body from the water. Authorities told the outlet that he was not wearing a personal flotation device, but there were no signs of foul play.

The case remains under investigation. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the cause of death.

“The Lake County Sheriff’s Office extends its condolences to the individual’s family and loved ones,” the Lake County Sheriff Search and Rescue said in the Facebook post. “We also thank the responding agencies and search personnel who assisted with the operation.”
