Deputy kills domestic violence suspect during Sacramento County chase, closing part of I-80

A pursuit of a domestic violence suspect ended with him being shot and killed by a deputy, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said this began when the suspect in a domestic violence call fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies initiated a pursuit which ended with an officer-involved shooting at 10:47 a.m. near the weigh station on Interstate 80 between Greenback Lane and Antelope Road in Citrus Heights.
Eastbound I-80 is closed at Greenback Lane. There is no estimated time for when the lanes will reopen. Westbound lanes were closed but are now open.
KCRA 3’s Andres Valle spoke with the sheriff’s office about the domestic violence investigation that led to the pursuit.

The sheriff’s office said a woman was violently assaulted in her home by her ex-boyfriend for three days. The woman escaped on Sunday morning was was running for help while bleeding, according to the sheriff’s office.

When deputies arrived to her home, the suspect had left with her car, which was later spotted by California Highway Patrol officers around 10:30 a.m., leading to the chase.

No deputies were injured in the pursuit or shooting, the sheriff’s office said.
CHP is handling the shooting investigation.
