Body recovered from San Francisco Bay identified

UPDATE July 16, 9:42 p.m. The body recovered from San Francisco Bay on Thursday has been identified as a 58-year-old woman from Sacramento County, according to a statement from the San Francisco Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

Tondra Miller, also known as Tondra Madruga, is the second person to die after a 49-foot cabin cruiser capsized and sunk near Alcatraz on Tuesday. 

July 16, 4:21 p.m. The San Francisco Police Department said it recovered a body from San Francisco Bay on Thursday.

About 1 p.m., the department’s marine unit was out sonar scanning when a vessel alerted the officers that they spotted a body in the water west of Treasure Island, SFPD said in a news release. The person was confirmed dead when officers recovered the body, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is confirming their identity.

The San Francisco Police Department continues its search for three missing people after a 49-foot cabin cruiser capsized in rough water and sunk near Alcatraz on Tuesday. Sixteen people who were on the boat at the time survived the sinking, and one person died after being rescued from the water.

Officer Paulina Henderson told SFGATE that SFPD is not yet able to confirm whether the person had been on the boat that capsized. The Coast Guard suspended its search Wednesday evening.
