Amber Alert issued for teen linked to deceased infant found in Monterey County
An Amber Alert has been issued for a missing teen girl, who law enforcement suspect was raped and impregnated by her father.

CHP issued the alert for 14-year-old Diana Galvez Ortega and her father, 38-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez on Sunday. They were last seen in Salinas traveling in a white Nissan Altima without any license plates.
Authorities say the teen was impregnated by her father and gave birth to an infant found deceased by the side of Struve Road in Monterey County on August 1.
The pair were last seen days later on August 4 at around 2 a.m.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s office said they requested CHP issue the Amber Alert after investigators found surveillance video showing the pair in the car.
“We understand there have been questions about why an Amber Alert was not previously requested,” the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. “Until this video was located, investigators did not have information identifying a vehicle in which Diana may have been traveling and were also unable to confirm with certainty that Diana and Sergio were traveling together.”
Diana Galvez Ortega is described as standing about 4 feet 10 inches tall and weighing approximately 100 pounds. She has black hair and brown eyes. Sergio Galvez Perez is described as standing about 5 feet 5 inches tall and weighing about 170 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes.
The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office warns anyone who sees either Ortega or Perez not to approach them, but instead to call 911 immediately.

Perez is wanted on multiple charges including incest, child concealment and child endangerment.
Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto initially described the teen as a “murder suspect” with a warrant out for her arrest. But in the new release the department said they are prioritizing locating the teen to ensure her safety.

The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has distanced itself from the sheriff’s earlier decision. In a release issued last week, the office reported that the warrant was a Ramey warrant, meaning it is issued by a judge due to probable cause, without the involvement of the district attorney.
The office said they will determine if any criminal charges will be filed against the teen in this case and called the girl a victim.
“No child should ever have to endure such horrific circumstances,” the statement said.
