According to Hayward police, a woman was walking near the Hayward DMV on Soto Road shortly after 3 p.m. While she was walking down Soto, a man going the opposite direction passed by. He then “suddenly grabbed” her and began pulling her away, police said. She fought and screamed, drawing the attention of two nearby witnesses. The good Samaritans “immediately intervened,” causing the suspect to run away, police said.

The man was approximately 5-foot-7 and 120 pounds, with “bushy” hair and “unique-colored eyes.” “Witnesses described him as resembling a ‘Justin Bieber look-alike,’” Hayward police said in a statement. He was wearing a white T-shirt with red paint, black pants and a black cross-body bag, and witnesses reported seeing him escaping southbound on Soto Road. The woman said she did not know the man who attacked her.

“The Hayward Police Department would like to thank the Good Samaritans whose quick actions helped bring this incident to an end and likely prevented further harm to the victim,” the department said in a statement.
