A 17-year-old who died after a car flew 25 feet off an elevated freeway in San Francisco was identified by the city\u2019s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner as Lenin Homer Silva.<\/p>

On May 30, Silva was traveling\u00a0on Interstate 80 with three other teenagers in a Chevrolet\u00a0Camaro when the driver made an \u201cunsafe turning movement.\u201d The crash occurred\u00a0just days after Silva graduated from Hillsdale High School in the San Mateo Union High School District,\u00a0SFGATE previously reported.<\/p><\/div>

After the\u00a0Camaro\u00a0hit a\u00a0Recology tractor-trailer on the freeway and the sand barrels near the Seventh Street\u00a0offramp, it flew off the metal railing onto the San Francisco Police Department\u2019s impound yard and landed upside down. Silva, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene.<\/p><\/div>

The driver, an 18-year-old, and the front seat passenger, a 17-year-old, had moderate injures. The 18-year-old who was sitting in the back with\u00a0Silva survived and had\u00a0major injuries.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>

In an interview with\u00a0KGO-TV, Silva\u2019s parents, Sue Homer and Paula\u00a0Silva, described the\u00a0testimonies highlighting their son\u2019s life and character they\u2019ve received.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>

\u201cThe adults in his life, his teachers, his bosses at the bakery, the counselors at school, his coaches all just really adored Lenin,\u201d they told the outlet. \u201cHe was a sweet kid with a big heart.\u201d<\/p><\/div>

Homer and Silva could not immediately be reached for comment.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>

Silva was a dedicated soccer player in the Bay Area, according to multiple youth soccer groups. At one point, the\u00a0teen played as a goalkeeper for the San Francisco Aztecs,\u00a0according to a Facebook post from the soccer club.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>

\u201cGoalkeeper is one of the toughest positions in soccer. Sometimes you\u2019re the hero and sometimes you\u2019re the villain, but Lenin always showed up with effort, commitment, and a willingness to learn,\u201d the post read. \u201c\u2026 Lenin, you will always be remembered. Your spirit, dedication, and smile will remain in our hearts forever.\u201d<\/p>

Shani Simpson, the director of coaching for the San Francisco Seals Soccer Club, told SFGATE that Silva also played for the\u00a0MLS Next U19 team.\u00a0<\/p><\/div>
