The so-called jungle primary, where candidates from any party compete on the same ballot and the top two\u00a0vote-getters advance regardless of affiliation, will send two candidates into a November runoff to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in Sacramento in January 2027. Behind them is Democrat Tom Steyer, the billionaire former hedge fund manager turned climate activist who self-funded one of the most expensive campaigns in California history. Republican Chad Bianco, the Riverside County sheriff, is the only other candidate currently leading in some counties.\u00a0<\/p><\/div><div><\/div><div><p>The results will continue to shift as more ballots come in. California\u2019s counting process is famously slow, and the secretary of state has until July 10 to certify the final tallies.
