Updated vote counts show how every California county voted for Governor
Votes are still being counted after Californians headed to the polls last weekfor the state’s governor primary. The so-called jungle primary, where candidates from any party compete on the same ballot and the top two vote-getters advance regardless of affiliation, will send two candidates into a November runoff to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom in Sacramento in January 2027. With a majority of the vote now counted, we have a good picture of how each of the state’s 58 counties voted.

On Friday, Democrat Xavier Becerra officially advanced in the California governor’s primary and is currently leading the race, ahead of Republican Steve Hilton, a British-born former Fox News host who became a U.S. citizen five years ago. Behind them is Democrat Tom Steyer, the billionaire former hedge fund manager turned climate activist who self-funded one of the most expensive campaigns in California history. Republican Chad Bianco, the Riverside County sheriff, is the only other candidate currently leading in some counties.
The results will continue to shift as more ballots come in. California’s counting process is famously slow, and the secretary of state has until July 10 to certify the final tallies. But as of 9 a.m. Monday, here’s how every California county voted for their next governor:
