On Monday around 1 p.m., the San Rafael Police Department and the San Rafael Fire Department responded to a call about an unconscious man in the 700 block of Las Gallinas Avenue near the Northgate shopping center, the San Rafael Police Department said in a news release.

As officers arrived on the scene, the man was suffering from a stab wound. First responders began life-saving measures and transported him to a local hospital. However, he later died at the hospital. San Rafael police have not released the man’s name.

Justin Amilcar Gutierrez-Navarette, a 20-year-old Richmond resident, voluntarily turned himself into police and agreed to be interviewed. Gutierrez-Navarette told detectives that he and the man were co-workers at an unnamed business inside the shopping center and that they were in an “ongoing dispute.” According to police, Gutierrez-Navarette allegedly stabbed his co-worker when the conflict escalated into a physical fight.
