Police were called to the 200 block of 14th Street in Oakland at approximately 1:30 a.m. on a report of a shooting, the Oakland Police Department told SFGATE in a statement. When officers arrived, they found Mackayla Paige, a Richmond resident, with a gunshot wound. Paige was transported to the hospital where she later died of her injuries, OPD said.

A woman, also from Richmond, was arrested in connection with the shooting, OPD said. Officials did not release the suspect’s name or details about what led up to the shooting.

Paige, also known as “Kash,” was featured in several reality series on Now That’s TV, a subscription streaming network. She was a cast member on the network’s “RoomMHates” and “Young & Reckless” and on the first season of “Real West Coast Baddies,” a show with dramatic feuds and physical altercations.

An Instagram post by Now That’s TV dedicated to Paige drew thousands of comments from fans who mourned her death.

“Though her time with us was far too short, her memory will live on,” the network said in the post. “Rest peacefully, Kash. Forever a part of the Now That’s TV family.”

Nicky Clayton, Paige’s cousin, told KTVU-TV that the reality star wanted to start a business and break into the makeup industry. Paige was already modeling for several companies, Clayton told the news outlet.

Just hours before the shooting was reported, Paige posted several videos to her Instagram story that appeared to show her partying with friends at night.

Social media posts and videos from fans said Paige was allegedly involved in a physical altercation with someone on the street when Paige’s friend allegedly shot her by mistake. Videos of the shooting’s aftermath, which showed Paige on the ground, also circulated on social media and have since been removed.

OPD did not confirm the alleged altercation or the relationship between Paige and the woman who was arrested in connection with the shooting. The department’s homicide unit is investigating the shooting, and anyone with information is urged to call OPD at 510-238-3821.

Paige’s death comes just a week after a Warfield Theatre security guard was fatally shot in San Francisco after a stage production of “Baddies USA,” a reality series produced by Zeus Network.
