Former San Francisco Police Department Sgt. Kevin Mannix, 68, is suspected of fatally shooting his wife, retired SFPD Deputy Chief Ann Mannix, 65, and their daughter Katherine Mannix, 24, before he turned the gun on himself, according to a news release from the sheriff’s department.

The 911 call reporting shots fired on Strawberry Circle was reported at 5:03 p.m., and deputies arrived on scene within minutes. The caller was able to leave the home, and deputies then secured the perimeter before entering the residence, according to the sheriff’s office. After entering the home, deputies discovered the three bodies. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, but sheriff’s office spokesperson Miguel Almaguer told SFGATE that there is no threat to the community.

In a statement, the San Francisco Police Officers Association said the news of the deaths from a suspected murder-suicide has “left our entire SFPD family reeling.”

“There are no words that can fully capture the depth of this tragedy, nor are there simple answers to the painful questions we are all asking,” the statement read.

Mayor Daniel Lurie issued a statement on Monday that he was “deeply saddened” by the death of Ann Mannix and her daughter.

“Deputy Chief Mannix dedicated decades of her life to serving San Francisco,” he wrote. “She was a trailblazer in the police department, becoming the first woman to join and lead the SWAT team and rising to lead both the Field Operations and Special Operations Bureaus.”

SFPD Chief Derrick Lew also released a statement in which he said that he was in touch with Marin County Sheriff Jamie Scardina.

“The Marin County Sheriff’s Office has described this incident as a murder suicide, which makes the situation all the more difficult to process,” Lew wrote. “My heart goes out to all their family members, friends and colleagues at the SFPD as we all work to process this tragedy.”

Lew highlighted Ann Mannix’s achievements during her 30-year career in the SFPD and highlighted mental health services for SFPD members.

“To all of our members, please know that help is available. You can contact our Behavioral Science Unit 24/7 at 415-837-0875,” he wrote.
