California fugitive charged with murder found in Mexico with his 2 children

More than a year after a young mother of two was found dead in her ex-boyfriend’s home in California, her missing children have been located and reunited with their family, the FBI’s Sacramento office announced this week.

In July 2024, 28-year-old Angelica Bravo was found deceased inside her ex-boyfriend Camron Lee’s home in Sacramento, and their two children — Athena Lee, aged 4 at the time, and Mateo Lee, who was nearly 3 — went missing. Following an autopsy, officials couldn’t determine Bravo’s exact cause of death, but they noted several abrasions and contusions along her face, torso and extremities. Asphyxiation by smothering could not be ruled out. In 2024, Lee was charged with four counts of possession of an assault weapon, and he was charged with murder by the Sacramento County Superior Court in March 2025.

Two days after she was found dead, Lee’s car reportedly crossed the Mexican border, where it was later found abandoned in Ensenada, a port city on the Baja California peninsula. Following a single tip, officials arrested Lee in Baja California, Mexico, on May 17, recovering Athena and Mateo Lee and reuniting them with their family after a multiagency search effort.

“Today marks another step forward in the pursuit of justice for Angelica Bravo, her family, and all those impacted by her murder in July 2024,” Zachary Bales, a deputy chief of the Sacramento Police Department, said in the news release. 

“Our thoughts remain with Ms. Bravo’s family and loved ones,” Bales continued, “and we hope this development brings them a measure of solace as they continue to carry this profound loss.”

As of Wednesday morning, Lee is currently being held in custody at the San Diego Central Jail.
