Krukow ended his 36-year run as a Giants broadcaster on Sunday when the Giants lost to the Dodgers 5-1 in 10 innings. With this final game alongside his longtime partner and best friend Duane Kuiper, Krukow is heading off into retirement, which he first announced on Aug. 6.
Krukow has frequently said that he wants to continue broadcasting, but his degenerative muscle disease has made it unsafe for him to do so. In the time since his announcement, tributes to Krukow have poured in from all corners of San Francisco and the baseball world.
The Giants and their media partners, KNBR-AM/FM and NBC Sports Bay Area, have made a month’s worth of content out of people offering praise and love to Krukow. Top Bay Area brewery Fieldwork unveiled a new beer in honor of Krukow, with the “Grab Some Pine, Meat!” West Coast IPA, giving proceeds to a Reno-area children’s cancer charity Krukow supports. And on Friday, San Francisco mayor Daniel Lurie officially made Friday “Kruk and Kuip Day” across the city.

As part of Sunday’s festivities, the Giants officially renamed the television booth as the “Kruk and Kuip broadcast booth,” revealing the new name in a ceremony after the first inning. NBC Sports Bay Area posted several archival videos from Krukow’s playing days and broadcasting career with the Giants during the game before showing the hour-long postgame ceremony.
Now, Krukow will pack up his belongings and head back to Reno, the city his family has made into their home. But Sunday was just further proof that Krukow’s impact on the Giants, on the game of baseball and on the city of San Francisco will never be forgotten.
