‘You’re right’: Nvidia CEO cozies up to Trump on AI in surprise onstage call

It’s been a week since a former Anthropic researcher sounded the alarm on artificial intelligence companies potentially steering the world into disaster. Just four days later, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei called for development to slow down, citing a risk to the human race, and his rivals, OpenAI’s Sam Altman and SpaceXAI’s Elon Musk, agreed on the same day. But the chipmaker that powers their tech isn’t convinced we’re teetering at the end of times, and neither is President Donald Trump.

While onstage at the 2026 All-In Summit in Los Angeles on Monday, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang took a call from Trump while talking about the recent discourse on AI doomerism. In a long-winded rant, Trump told the crowd over speakerphone that he believed that fears were a “hoax” being circulated by political insiders and Chinese operatives to surpass the United States in the AI race. Huang, who’s been vocal about AI fear mongering in the past, made a pledge to stave off a slowdown.

“You’re right,” Huang said. “We’re not going to let that happen, sir.”

The call follows a Truth Social post Monday morning from Trump blasting Amodei and calling an AI slowdown a “SICK conspiracy.” Huang praised Trump for his stance on AI and data centers and told the president they were in the middle of talking about him when he called. The conversation mirrored much of what Trump had already posted on his social media accounts, calling backlash against data centers a threat to the U.S. economy and a boost for China. 

Even as data centers prove to be unpopular across party lines, Trump continued to argue that the power-hungry developments were making communities richer. That messaging is ideal for Huang, whose company has a $100 billion partnership with OpenAI to provide computing power for new AI systems. Huang is a contrarian in an industry whose leaders are often loud and difficult to relate to, and his denial of the idea that AI is a risk to humanity is another sharp contrast to his colleagues. In a July interview with Axios, Huang painted the existential concerns of AI as “complete nonsense.”

“We have to make sure we adopt AI, diffuse AI, into the industries as quickly as possible,” Huang said in the interview. “… So long as our industries take advantage of AI, then we’re going to do incredibly well.”

But it’s not just insiders worrying about the pace of AI anymore. Concerns about the tech moving too fast are buzzing around Washington, D.C., with some California lawmakers pitching bills to regulate AI or create safeguards if it runs wild. Former Vice President Kamala Harris weighed in Monday, calling for more guardrails on AI development. 

Despite his cozying up to Trump onstage, Huang has previously praised some Chinese AI models as “excellent” and advocated for American companies to be able to use Chinese models. For Trump, it’s an economic battle, but for Huang, the AI race is about getting the tech into more people’s hands.

“We’re gonna make sure that everybody wins in the AI race in America,” Huang told Trump. “Every industry, every company, every state, every people.”
