Woman accused of killing husband at upscale California community

A 65-year-old woman has been arrested at an upscale condominium complex in Southern California on suspicion of murder, officials announced this month.

According to a Sept. 5 news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office, on the morning of Friday, Sept. 4, deputies responded to an “unknown trouble” call at The Enclave, a residence that bills itself as a luxury community and boasts amenities like fitness centers, putting greens, and resort-style pools and spas. 

When deputies arrived, they found a victim suffering from traumatic injuries that suggested physical assault and pronounced the person dead at the scene. Officials then arrested Palm Desert resident Vicky Kim at the scene and booked her at the John Benoit Detention Center on suspicion of murder, the release says. The victim was Kim’s husband, to whom she inflicted great bodily harm with a flag pole, court documents shared with SFGATE say.

Riverside County District Attorney’s Office spokesperson Molly Smith told SFGATE that Kim already had several domestic violence cases involving her husband, and Hawaii police records from 2007 show that she was previously charged with first-degree terroristic threatening after allegedly announcing a bomb threat at Keahole International Airport. 

“In January of this year, our office charged Ms. Kim with a felony, obtained criminal protective orders, and intended to aggressively prosecute her for her crimes against her husband,” Smith told SFGATE on Friday, adding that Kim is scheduled for arraignment the same day.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office declined SFGATE’s request for more information.
