Brutal dog attack leaves woman with life-threatening injuries in San Francisco
A woman suffered life-threatening injuries after being attacked by a dog in San Francisco’s Tenderloin neighborhood on Tuesday morning.
The attack happened on the 500 block of Larkin Street, where police were called at approximately 9:20 a.m., Robert Rueca, a spokesperson for the San Francisco Police Department, told SFGATE. When officers arrived, they saw the dog, which was off a leash, “moving around” the woman, Rueca said. Officers used a catchpole to restrain the dog and separate it from the woman.
A video posted on the Citizen app appears to show the woman lying on the street as officers surrounded the area. The woman was “dragged” by the medium-to-large pit bull, which, according to a post on X from the Citizen app, was attacking multiple people. Rueca said he cannot confirm the details from Citizen at this time.
Police on the scene provided medical treatment to the woman, who was suffering from “life-threatening” injuries, before medics arrived, Rueca said. The woman was eventually transported by paramedics to a local hospital for “traumatic injuries,” according to a statement to SFGATE from the San Francisco Fire Department.

The dog, which became unresponsive while being held back by authorities, died on the scene, according to Rueca. The attack is under investigation, and anyone with information is urged to call SFPD at 415-575-4444 or text the tipline at TIP411.
