2 brothers found dead in Trinity River amid deadly summer
Two brothers died in Humboldt County’s Trinity River last week, the latest in a string of deadly drownings this summer at the popular waterway.

Authorities went to Tagmeyer Beach in Willow Creek on Wednesday morning after someone was seen “struggling to swim” in the river the day before, the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release. Search crews looked for the person, whose car was still at the site, in the river and around the nearby river bar, eventually locating two people in the water.
The two people were found deceased, and investigators believe they drowned, the sheriff’s office said. Autopsies to officially determine their causes of death are scheduled for this week.
The two people were identified as Lex Rincon, a 45-year-old Arcata resident, and Krishna Rincon, an 18-year-old New York resident. In a GoFundMe page created by Lex’s friend, they called the brothers’ deaths “unexpected” and a “devastating loss” for their loved ones. Many of the family members live in New York, the friend wrote, so the funds will be used to buy plane tickets for the family to fly to California.
“Our friend Lex was unrelentingly kind, determined, creative, and funny, and I am privileged to have known him for so long, and to have been introduced to his gentle and curious brother Ganesh,” Lex’s friend wrote on the page. “I am heartbroken by their deaths, as are all that knew and loved them.”

The GoFundMe has raised more than $14,880 as of Tuesday morning.
Several people have died this summer in apparent drownings at the same river, in some cases being swept away by the powerful downstream current. In July, three people died in the span of one week at the Trinity River, and the sheriff’s office urged the public to be cautious amid the strong current and changing river conditions.
The cold water can make it difficult for swimmers, and the intensity of the waves often changes rapidly, SFGATE previously reported.
