California woman vanishes from popular filming location

A 63-year-old woman went missing while riding dirt bikes with her friend in Southern California last week, officials announced Saturday.

According to a July 11 news release from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, Julie Elizabeth Goforth, a resident of Long Beach, was last seen in the El Mirage Dry Lake Off-Highway Recreation Area in Adelanto. A popular filming destination for movies like “There Will Be Blood” and “Terminator” the recreation area measures over 27,000 acres and accommodates anything from land yachts to gyrocopters.  

Goforth was with her friend at the time and left to go back to their car to rest when she disappeared, the release says. At the time she was last seen, she was riding a gray-and-white Kawasaki KLX 300R dirt bike while wearing a white shirt with black-and-white dirt bike pants. 

Despite receiving assistance from the sheriff’s department’s search and rescue and aviation divisions and extensively monitoring the area, authorities couldn’t locate Goforth or her bike. Goforth is considered an at-risk individual due to severe heat in the area and potential lack of water. She weighs 140 pounds, is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, and has blue eyes.
