Bay Area burglary suspect took crime-scene selfies, police say
A Bay Area man was arrested in connection with a $100,000 burglary in Napa County after authorities uncovered selfie photographs of him allegedly committing the crime.

The burglary was reported on Monday at a business on the 1100 block of Green Island Road in American Canyon, where tools, copper wire and vehicles together worth $100,000 were stolen, the American Canyon Police Department said in a Facebook post.
Investigators identified two vehicles they believe were associated with the crime and the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office pulled over one of the suspects on Tuesday, a 53-year-old Hayward man, the police department said. Authorities obtained photos of the man allegedly taking selfies during the burglary and booked him into Napa County Department of Corrections. A photo posted on Facebook by American Canyon Police shows a man with his face covered from the nose down, taking a photo of himself in front of a vehicle while doing a peace sign.
He is facing several felony charges tied to the burglary, police said.
A second suspect, a 49-year-old Hayward man, was arrested on Wednesday in connection with the burglary. The 49-year-old is also facing felony charges and he is being held on a $25,000 bail, Napa County inmate records show.

Authorities from the American Canyon Police Department, Hayward Police Department, Napa County Sheriff’s Office and Napa Special Investigations Bureau conducted a search the same day in Hayward on the 3200 block of Arden Road, police said. Officers found some of the stolen items at the location, police said. In recent months, copper wire has become a huge target in burglaries across the Bay Area and California because of its growing value. As of Friday afternoon, copper is valued at $6.28 per pound. This type of theft has shut down essential services such as internet connections in Oakland and 911 lines in several East Bay cities.
American Canyon Police did not respond to SFGATE’s request for additional information.
